Rural Area Network (R.A.N.)
Turn-key telecommunications infrastructure for rebuilding in disaster relief
R.A.N. Overview
Ground Zero is a global leader in the development of technology for provisioning turn-key, 'Mini-Telcos',
which are based on our
O.S.C.A.R. and
S.A.M.
units. Our solution can be shipped at a moment's notice to any
disaster scene in the world where existing infrastructure has been wiped out, and restore voice and data
communications within 30 minutes of arrival.
The R.A.N. is a self-contained, self-powered network capable of providing instant communications within a 40 km radius. The O.S.C.A.R. and S.A.M. units that comprise the R.A.N. are very versatile and include: multiple mounting methods; solar cells to prolong battery life; option to be tied into a permanent power supply; and easily customizable RF equipment and frequencies.
These frequencies, which can be either licensed or unlicensed, carry an Internet signal for voice and data using point-to-point and Omni-directional antennas. Any individual or organization within the broadcast area then has access unified communications.
But what truly sets us apart is that when efforts on the ground shift from emergency response to disaster relief, our system can seamlessly transition into a permanent, new telecommunications infrastructure. The R.A.N. is designed to convert into a small ISP that the local telecom provider can use to service the area.
The platform is equally applicable to addressing the issue of inadequate, even non-existent, access to communications services in remote areas of the world. For example, anything from providing instant, affordable broadband communications for villages in Somalia and isolated North American First Nations bands to secure communications for schools under their own defined network. Our local Telco partners even have the flexibility of provisioning the three core components of the R.A.N. as separate, revenue generating services:
- Internet Service Provider (ISP)
- IP based phone supplier (VOIP)
- Secure private networks
